51 years before

This photograph from August 7th, 1958, shows the “MitaClub” in the main shopping district of Tatebayashi City, Japan. The motorcycle in the photograph is a Honda “Benly”. In those days, it was uncommon to see motorcycles in Japan. It was used by MitaClub’s employees for deliveries. The various decorations are for a traditional Japanese Festival called the “Star Festival”. The animal decoration is a dog because 1958 was the Year of the Dog in Japan. The “Star Festival” has been held every year in Tatebayashi City sinces the 1880’s. The photograph also shows that even in 1958, 13 years after the end of the war, the road was still unpaved.

この写真は1958年8月7日で、かつて館林市の商店街地域にあったMitaClub（三田三昭堂）です。 写真のバイクはホンダ社のベンリーといい、当時は日本製のバイクを見ることは珍しかった時代です。 MitaClub（三田三昭堂）の当時のスタッフが、遠方に早く商品を配達するために使われていました。 写真の竹飾りは日本の伝統行事の七夕祭りの様子です。 1958年はイヌ年でしたので、竹細工によって犬を作り沿道に飾られました。 館林市の商店街では120年以上前（1880年頃）から七夕祭りを毎年開催し続けています。 戦後から13年経っていますが、その頃の道路は未だ舗装されていませんでした。
